The Zine Zone

I only heard of zines a couple of years ago, i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, I think they’re bloody brilliant in all forms, expensive or cheap ass photocopies. So when I got the invite to contribute to one by Hipshootfilm I thought why the fuck not.

I met the Ben of Hipshootfilm through instagram, he’s a fellow film photographer and all round good egg. He was doing this film swap thing where if you could, well, swap film stock with someone, pretty self explanatory really. At that time i’d dedicated my life entirely to medium format delta 100 and had absolutely no use for anything else that i’d accumulated over the years that was just clogging up my fridge. So I thought I was getting the better end of the deal swapping a few unloved colour films for delta 100 for sure, we both paid the unfortunate price of posting to and from Iceland though but still worth it for me to clean my stock up a little (sorry Ben).

Then a few months later he told me about his zine he’d produced called 4 Stops which is made up of film photography from 4 different photographers including Ben himself (why wouldn’t he, it’s his zine!). He was thinking about the second edition and decided upon the theme of landscape photography from 4 photographers in 4 different countries and thought of me up here in Iceland. I jumped at the chance and put together a collection for him to choose from and then a few months later boom it was here and one of my images on the cover to boot!

It was printed in a limited run of 50 which have all now sold out, including one to my biggest fan, my mother (thanks ma x). They’re beautifully put together in high quality stock and it was lovely to see my images along side some other talented folks from across the globe. I’m definitely inspired to get more into this zine game that’s for sure. Watch this space!

4 Stops is now in it’s 3rd edition which has a theme of “night” and is available on his website here and I do believe work has started on the next so do keep an eye out for that.
